This post is going out a day later because of the Global Call to Action for a Ceasefire in Gaza.
A couple of days ago, the US voted against a UN resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Of the 13 United Nations Security Council members, the US was the only one who voted against the ceasefire. The UK abstained.
If you’re uncertain about what the Security Council is, the UN website says they’re supposed to “take the lead in determining the existence of a threat to the peace or act of aggression”. They’re also supposed to call for the resolution of conflicts by “peaceful means”. Simply put, in my view, these are countries that apparently, have the final say about whether people get to live or die.
And in this case, the US with its veto power, has decided that the state of Israel can continue to murder thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of Gazans.
