I was speaking with someone the other day (most of my random thoughts seem to come from conversations I have with people hmm) and he said something interesting.

We were talking about land use.

Which seems really boring, but it turned out to be a very thought-provoking conversation.

He said something along the lines of —

People who own land should only use the land for what produces the highest profits.

His example was that farmers are poor because they’re not very good at picking what to plant i.e. they are not using their land to cultivate what produces the highest profits. They’re not good at predicting what produce will do well in the market, and so plant a variety of random stuff, some of which eventually sells well and some of which doesn’t.
