As painful as it can be sometimes to be blasted out of our echo chambers in this way, it's also an important reminder that so many people in the world had so many differing viewpoints. In regards to travel opening up your mind, and him not having the same experience, I think it's very much a condition of 'wherever you go, there you are'. If you have a closed mindset in Location A, going to Location B won't necessarily change that. It also depends on why you're going to Location B.
